Getting the job done doesn't mean anything if our people don't go home at the end of the day. It's no secret--at Harmon we believe that all work related injuries can be prevented and that both management and employees are jointly responsible for injury prevention and creating a safe work environment. Period. The Harmon Safety Department is unique in our industry for being able to identify hazards in the work environment and develop ways to resolve the issues through creative engineering, design and development of equipment, tools and devices that make our jobs safer and more productive. |
Essential to providing a safe place to work is proper protective equipment and an environment conducive to safe practices and policies. It is Harmon's intent to provide this environment to all workers by:
- Conducting facility audits and jobsite inspections by all levels of management including an annual Corporate Safety Audit.
- Providing mandatory training to assist employees in recognizing potential hazards, emergency response procedures and behaviors, foreman's training sessions, and weekly tool box talks.
- Proactive safety planning by conducting job hazard analysis and specific safety plans in our facilities and on our jobsites.
- Assigning safety responsibilities to qualified individuals to insure that Harmon's policies are carried out at each facility and jobsite.
- Offering shop and field workers monthly safety incentives for individual safe behavior and quarterly recognition of safety performance.
- Thorough accident/near miss investigation and follow up to assist with accident prevention by accident/near miss reporting and monthly company safety reporting.
To provide oversight of all of its policies and procedures, Harmon has two Safety Managers with responsibilities to cover the markets served in the U.S. One safety manager is assigned to Contract offices while the other provides direction to Service offices and the fabrication facility. Both are dedicated to the Harmon Safety Program.
